The average American spends 8.8 hours a day at work.  Having a work space where they can be and feel comfortable is crucial for professional and personal success.  That’s especially true for employees with disabilities.

Stationary desks. Small computer screens. Small type laptops. Standard office furniture and accessories can prove to be challenging for people with certain disabilities.

1 in 5 Americans has a disability. So, it’s likely that someone in your office would have an easier time on the job with some accommodation.  Here are a few changes you can make to your office so it becomes accessible to all employees.

Chairs: There are many chairs that would accommodate people with disabilities, including ergonomic chairs, for employees with spinal problems; stools, for employees with sensory sensitivities; and chairs without wheels, for transferring in and out of a wheelchair.

Lighting: Many people with disabilities have an increased need for lighting. The extra illumination compensates for poor vision, and other spatial navigation difficulties.

In order for workers with disabilities to be comfortable, efficient and productive, it’s critical for them to have a fully accessible office space. At Alliance Corporate Services, we know adapting the workplace doesn’t have to be a huge (or expensive) undertaking.
