But, this is no April Fools’ Day joke – today marks my 45th anniversary in the office furniture business!
On April 1, 1974, I moved from St. Petersburg to Miami to begin a new career. For decades, Miami had been the southern epicenter of dreams and glamour, and I suspected it would be the ideal location to start my office furnishings sales business. After all, Miami had a thriving economic culture, and I was selling something that business people used on a daily basis.
Dressed in suits and ties, I physically called on each and every client. Rain or shine, I traveled throughout what was then just Dade County with thick, heavy binders that showcased the latest in office furniture. With so much manpower dedicated to the region, I didn’t dare venture into Broward. As a new small business owner with a single truck, the county seemed too far away.
Forty-five years later, I find myself simultaneously working on jobs in five different states. The advent of technology transformed the way I do business.
